The Franchise

From Sam Mendes (1917, American Beauty), Armando Iannucci (HBO’s Veep and Avenue 5), and Jon Brown (HBO’s Succession), this irreverent comedy series follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. An unvarnished look at the realities of show business, the series takes us behind the scenes on the set of Tecto: Eye of the Storm, the latest entry from comic book and media empire Maximum Studios. Though the film is ostensibly helmed by eccentric German filmmaker Eric Bourchard (Daniel Brühl), it’s up to Assistant Director Dan (Himesh Patel) and producer Anita (Aya Cash) to reign in stars Adam and Peter (Billy Magnussen and Richard E. Grant) and keep the film afloat amid constant catastrophes and the ever-changing demands of the studio. Sharp and seriously funny, The Franchise shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking.
