Angels in America

In this epic fantasia of interwoven AIDS-related stories, Academy and Emmy Award-winning director Mike Nichols (The Graduate, HBO's Wit) combines Tony Kushner's acclaimed plays Angels in America: Millennium Approaches (Pulitzer Prize; Tony Award for Best Play) and Angels in America: Perestroika (Tony Award for Best Play) in an all-star production topped by Oscar winners Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson.

Battling AIDS, Prior Walter is devastated when his lover, Louis, leaves him for ex-Mormon and political conservative Joe, whose wife, Harper, is slowly having a nervous breakdown. Their stories contrast with that of Roy Cohn (a fictionalized portrait of the rabid American archconservative who died of AIDS in 1986) and his desperate attempt to remain "in the closet" while seeking personal salvation in his beliefs.

Mixing magical realism with political diatribes, high comedy with raw tragedy, Angels in America is profoundly moving yet enormously amusing as it presents the story of everyday people trying to make sense of their world.
