Today, Glasgow woke up to find Superman had landed… or rather, his iconic cape had.

Glasgow joins four other cities today in unveiling a larger-than-life Superman mural as part of an epic nationwide trail.

Designed to celebrate the release of James Gunn’s Superman, arriving in UK cinemas July 11, each of the nine murals allows fans to step into Superman’s iconic red boots. With his cape billowing behind, the interactive artwork offers a one-of-a-kind superhero photo opportunity.

Dubbed ‘Citycapes’, the installations aim for a collective cultural moment across the 5 cities, with each artwork inviting Superman fans to step into the red boots of the Man of Steel, with his cape billowing heroically behind them. The Glasgow artworks have been installed at The Boat Shed in Queens Park, Shawlands and The Nancy Smillie Shop in Cresswell Lane.

Designed as a public photo-opportunity and street art installation in one, the murals reflect the bold new look of James Gunn’s Superman, blending comic book energy with real-world scale. Some of the murals even include a guest appearance from Krypto the Superdog, allowing fans of all ages to interact with Superman’s most loyal companion.

In addition, each mural has a unique QR code to scan, giving visitors a chance to win an exclusive private screening of the eagerly awaited Superman, in the locations the artworks are live.

John Turner, Chair of the Byres Road & Lanes Business Improvement District, said: “John said: “Just like the Man of Steel, Glasgow’s strength is in its kindness and fairness to all, something my family can verify having moved to the city around 15 years ago. At the heart of Glasgow’s West End is its diversity, independence and sense of community and caring for others. I can think of several people who deserve to wear the famous red cape. We are very excited to be hosting it in the West End.”

Jonny McDonald, Shawlands BID Chairperson, said: “Glasgow has a fierce sense of identity, and Superman’s values of strength and fairness resonate deeply here. The BID were delighted to help bring this bold, creative expression of heroism to our communities.”

James Gunn, director of Superman, said:  “Superman is a hero for everyone, everywhere. I love that this campaign brings that idea to life in such a fun and accessible way. I hope fans across the UK and Ireland enjoy becoming part of Superman’s story.”

“Superman,” DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures.  In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

The film stars David Corenswet (“Twisters,” “Hollywood”) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the “X-Men” movies, “Juror #2”) as Lex Luthor.  The film also stars Edi Gathegi (“For All Mankind”), Anthony Carrigan (“Barry,” “Gotham”), Nathan Fillion (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “The Suicide Squad”), Isabela Merced (“Alien Romulus”), Skyler Gisondo (“Licorice Pizza,” “Booksmart”), Sara Sampaio (“At Midnight”), María Gabriela de Faría (“The Moodys”), Wendell Pierce (“Selma,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”), Alan Tudyk (“Andor”), Pruitt Taylor Vince (“Bird Box”) and Neva Howell (“Greedy People”).

“Superman” is executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther.  Behind the camera, Gunn is joined by frequent collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with editors Craig Alpert (“Deadpool 2,” “Blue Beetle”), Jason Ballantine (the “IT” films, “The Flash”) and William Hoy (“The Batman”).
